Getting older is something that happens to all of us, unfortunately as we age are bodies and sometimes our mind can deteriorate and we need extra care and additional help in our day to day lives, whether this is alterations to our home, care workers to come in to are home to help us with some more of the manual choirs of day to day living or in some cases we may need to go into assisted living with 24hr care.

Home Alterations

Sometimes as we get older we find increased difficulty in many of our daily tasks, these can include getting in and out of the bath, going up and down the stairs, or even getting out of your bed or standing up out of your chairs. Many of these problems can be overcome by making alterations to your property from putting in a walk in bath or installing a chair lift. In some cases you may consider downsizing your property a moving home to a smaller house making it more manageable, this may also release funds to make the home improvement you need on your new house to make life easier.

Home Care

Even with some home alterations you may still find living at home difficult but you may not wish to move into assisted living. There are companies available who offer care assistants that will come into your home and help you with the daily tasks from helping you bath to carrying out your weekly shopping. In many instances the council will offer funding for care givers and so you should approach your local authorities who can discuss your needs and requirements and give you the help that you need.

Retirement Homes / Retirement Villages

Historically retirement homes have a bad reputation but modern retirements have changed, these facilities provide support services and health care designed to respond to individual needs of those who need help with activities of daily living in a more natural home environment, but do not need skilled medical care provided in a nursing home. Retirement villages are a relatively new development in elderly care, with these the residents purchase or lease a flat which give the new owner a fully independent living space with bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom. These flats our built in community with a wide range of different amenities from coffee shops, gardens to pubs and computer rooms. These retirement village create a healthy community so keeping you socially active.

What kinds of activities are provided? - A full complement of programs and activities are offered at each individual assisted living facility to enrich the living experience for each unique resident. These activities include but are not limited to arts and crafts, lectures, movies, concerts, outings and many others.

Nursing Home

Nursing homes are similar to retirement homes but are generally used when someone requires more care because of serious physical or mental disabilities, these homes often have specially trained nursing staff who can deal with dementia, patients with limited mobility or other physical or mental disabilities.
